Lara Dutta’s production house Bheegi Basanti Entertainment will produce an international drama series based on Adrian Levy and Cathy Scott-Clark’s 2012 book The Meadow, reported Bombay Times. The journalists’ book revolves around the 1995 kidnapping of six westerners in the Kashmir valley by a terrorist group.

“When I read The Meadow many years ago, I knew it would be something I would definitely find a way to showcase,” she told the publication. “Now with the rights in hand, this is definitely going to be something exciting that a global audience will see originating from India.”

Dutta’s banner will also co-produce a film based on the Chattisgarh women’s basketball team along with British producer Jonathan Cavendish, who has earlier backed the Bridget Jones films and Elizabeth: The Golden Age (2005).

“The story of the Chattisgarh women’s basketball team has so much heart and I’ve been wanting to make it into a film ever since I heard it,” Dutta told Bombay Times. “It is a perfect example of the conversation the world is having right now about empowering women.”
