B4U has signed a three-film deal with Renny Harlin and DJ Parmar’s Chinese company Extraordinary Entertainment, Variety reported. Described as a “co-development agreement”, the deal was announced at the Shanghai International Film Festival, which opened on June 16.

According to the report, the first film under the deal will be a “large scale action adventure” directed by Harlin and written by Brian Brightly. Titled Operation Wild, the movie will chronicle the story of two combat warriors from India and China who fight against a global wildlife poaching criminal organisation. It will reportedly feature prominent Indian and Chinese actors.

B4U CEO Ishan Saksena told Variety that the films produced under the deal will “highlight the emotional bond and cultural values that are common between the people of China and India”.

Several Indian films have enjoyed successful runs at the Chinese box office, including Aamir Khan’s Dangal (2016) and Secret Superstar (2017) and the Irrfan-starrer Hindi Medium (2017).

Extraordinary Entertainment was set up in May. While Harlin has directed several Hollywood films, including Die Hard 2 (1990), Cliffhanger (1993), Driven (2001) and The Legend of Hercules (2014), Parmar’s production credits include Kung Fu Yoga (2017), The Composer (2018) and the upcoming Indian version of Rambo.

“The enormous success of co-production films like Kung Fu Yoga and other Indian films has helped pave the way for Indian content in China,” Parmar told Variety. “Building on this, we are excited to develop our new China-India film slate beginning with Operation Wild and our partner B4U, one of India’s most renowned Entertainment companies.”
