American singer and actress Mary J Blige will play the lead in Paramount Players’ upcoming horror-thriller Body Cam, said The Hollywood Reporter. Directed by Malik Vitthal, Body Cam is about a group of police officers who are haunted by a vengeful spirit. The spirit is tied to the murder of a young black man by two white police officers, which was caught on a body cam video destroyed in a cover up.

Blige will play an officer who begins to investigate the cover up after she gets visions.The film has been described as a cross between Jordan Peele’s horror thriller Get Out (2017) and David Ayer’s crime drama End of Watch (2012).

A Grammy award-winning rapper and hip-hop artist, Blige won critical acclaim for her acting prowess for her performance in Dee Rees’s racial drama Mudbound (2017), for which she was nominated for an Academy Award. She made her acting debut with Darnell Martin’s Prison Song (2001). Blige is also set to appear in Netflix series The Umbrella Academy, which focuses on a dysfunctional family of superheros who come together to investigate their father’s mysterious death.

Vithal has previously directed crime drama Imperial Dreams (2014), Watts and Volts (2009) and Leela (2006).
