Abhishek Chaubey will direct Junglee Pictures’ upcoming web series Dus Assi, Bombay Times reported. Set in Uttar Pradesh, the crime thriller will focus on a real-life incident. “It’s a story about real people, our own people, and the audience would want that,” Chaubey said.

Chaubey made his directorial debut in 2010 with Ishqiya, which he also wrote. Since then, he has written and directed the sequel Dedh Ishqiya (2014) and Udta Punjab (2016). Chaubey has also co-written several of director Vishal Bhardwaj’s films, including Omkara (2006), Kaminey (2007) and Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola (2013). His upcoming film Sonchiriya is set in the Chambal region and features Sushant Singh Rajput, Bhumi Pednekar and Manoj Bajpayee in pivotal roles.

Junglee Pictures is part of the Times of India group, and has previously produced Talvar (2015) and Raazi (2018). Chaubey told the newspaper that the series will be shot in real locations in Uttar Pradesh. “This is a story that’s set in western UP. I have been to western UP before. I wrote Omkara, which was set there. But this is a different world from Omkara. It is more in the urban areas of western UP, in towns like Meerut, Muzzafarnagar and Moradabad. It is not set in the rural areas, but it’s definitely rooted.”
