Supernatural horrors meet real-life ones in the trailer of Overlord, which was released by Paramount Pictures on Wednesday. Directed by Julius Avery and produced by JJ Abrams, the thriller is centred on a group of American soldiers who are dropped behind enemy lines in a Nazi-occupied region during the Normandy landings during World War II. While they try to make their way across the French territory, they stumble on a Nazi experiment that involves zombie-like super soldiers.
Overlord stars Jovan Adepo, Jacob Anderson, Pilou Asbæk, Iain De Caestecker, John Magaro, Wyatt Russell and Bokeem Woodbine. Co-produced by and distributed Paramount Pictures, it will be released in the United States of America on November 9.
The film was previously rumored to be the fourth installment of the Cloverfield horror franchise produced by Abrams, which began in 2008. But the producer said earlier this year that Overlord is separate from the franchise, and that a fourth Cloverfield movie is being developed.
