Sooni Taraporevala is returning to the director’s chair with Ballet Boys, Mumbai Mirror reported. The Little Zizou director will be making a movie about two working-class boys from Mumbai who carve a future for themselves in the world of ballet.

The film is a fictionalised version of Yeh Ballet, Taraporevala’s 14-minute 360-degree documentary. Yeh Ballet followed Amiruddin Shah and Manish Chauhan who, mentored by Israeli-American trainer Yehouda Maor, made it to the Oregon Ballet Theatre in the United States of America and the Royal Ballet School in London.

Siddharth Roy Kapur is producing Ballet Boys, which will be shot from January 2019. The music and lyrics are by Sachin-Jigar and Mayur Puri respectively, who previously collaborated on the dance films ABCD and ABCD 2. The movie will showcase diverse dance forms, Mumbai Mirror reported, with choreography by Shaimak Davar and Yehouda Maor and Cindy Jourdain.

Taraporevala’s screenplays include Salaam Bombay! (1988), Such a Long Journey (1998) and The Namesake (2006). Her debut feature, the comedy Little Zizou (2008), explores the battle between reason and orthodoxy in the Parsi community in Mumbai.
