It might not have been in a Grand Slam, but for the evergreen Swiss tennis star Roger Federer, this could well have been a bigger win. On Tuesday, FedEx despatched World No. 1 Novak Djokovic in straight sets at the ATP World Tour finals at the O2 Arena in London.

In the process, he proved, first, that Djoker isn't invincible, and that his own story isn't over.

This was Djokovic’s first loss at the ATP Finals since 2011, and his scarcely believable 38-match winning streak indoors was finally brought to an end. The Serbinator has been in unstoppable form this year, winning three out of the four Grand Slams, losing only in the French Open final to Stan Wawrinka.

But on Tuesday, Djokovic had no answer to FedEx, who was right on top of his game. After a closely-fought first set, Federer broke Djokovic at the end of the first set and clinched the set with a sublimely delicate backhand drop-shot (see the video above). Federer then went into the ascendency in the second set and maintained his lead with some tremendous winners from the baseline.

Later after the match, Djokovic sparked some controversy when he claimed that he had “handed over” the win to Federer. Not surprisingly, Federer did not seem pleased, but replied, in his usual unflappable manner, that putting Djokovic away was not easy considering the form he has been in this year – and he would prefer to give himself credit for the win.
