What do you do when you're having a bad day? Do you kick, slap and abuse your Uber driver?

A video of Anjali Ramakissoon, a fourth year neurology resident in Miami, where she can be seen doing just that went viral last week. A now embarrassed and harassed Ramakissoon appeared on an ABC News show and apologised for her actions.

Admitting her mistake, she told the host that her father had been admitted to a hospital, and she had broken up with her boyfriend of two years. While these were not excuses, she said on the show that she was sorry for her acts and was asking for forgiveness.

Ramakissoon said she paid the driver for the damages and apologised. Since he did not press charges there is no pending legal action. There has been a significant impact on her life though.

She has been suspended from the Jackson Health System where she works. She has been receiving hate mail and has been subjected to cyber-bullying. "I've received messages that I should kill myself, that I should have been raped that night," she says. Her family too is being targeted.

The trouble began when Ramakissoon – under the influence of alcohol – got into an Uber that wasn't hers. When the driver told her to get out, she got violent. The person who had ordered that particular Uber filmed the performance and put it on Youtube.

The video has had over six million views. The description reads, "This Uber driver deserves a bonus from the company (and a medal for having self-restraint while dealing with this animal).... The Uber driver was too good of a person and decided to take a cash settlement instead of pressing charges. In his words, '...she was crying (and) said (she) was sorry for everything.' I don't want to disclose the amount the driver was paid, but can say he could only use the money to pay his cellphone bill and maybeee (sic) his cable bill."

In her defence, Ramakissoon says, "I was caught at my lowest moment".
