Six scenes from the absurd drama of Kanhaiya Kumar's arrest, and after
What happened at JNU, at the courts, and elsewhere in the country.
On Wednesday in Delhi's Patiala Court, 'lawyers' beat up not only journalists (again) but also Kanhaiya Kumar, the JNU student leader who was about to be produced in court.
Here are some of the other scenes from this unfortunate sequence of events that many have not seen.
On Tuesday, students of Jadavpur University in Kolkata raised slogans in support of self-determination for both Kashmir and Manipur (video above).
Wading into troubled waters, politicians from the CPI (M) and Congress have come out in support of the students' cause. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi spoke against the attempt to suppress the voice of the students. "People are entitled to opinions," he said, "and no one should try to crush others' viewpoints and that's what the RSS is doing."
Journalists in Delhi went on a protest march on Tuesday against the assault on them in court. Besides the physical assaults phones were broken and journalists were warned to not shoot videos.
On Monday, BJP MLA OP Sharma launched an attack on CPI leader Ameeque Jamei (video below) outside the court, even threatening to open fire if he had a gun.
Professors at JNU have been speaking out in support of students. In the video below, Professor Nivedita Menon talks of the violence in the courtroom.
Of course, it all began to go out of control with Kanhaiya Kumar's arrest on Saturday.
