Rafael Nadal has done many wonderful things at Roland Garros in the last decade, winning the French Open a record nine times on his favourite clay surface. The Spaniard isn't the favourite this year, after struggling with injury and poor form over the whole of last season, when he didn't win a single Grand Slam. In the Australian Open earlier this year, he was knocked out in the first round itself by compatriot Fernando Ferdasco.

However, when the 29-year-old came up against the 100th-ranked Sam Groth in the first round of the 2016 French Open on Tuesday, not many would have predicted another upset. Nadal did not disappoint, taking only 80 minutes to dispatch the big-serving Australian 6-1 6-1 6-1, committing only two unforced errors.

Nadal played quality tennis, which included some trademark powerful forehand winners. However, the shot of the match was a tweener, or between-the-legs winner, which not only bamboozled his opponent, but also himself. As Groth helplessly watched the shot sail past him, he could only laugh submissively, knowing he was up against a genius.
