Watch: Even before it's 24 hours old, the GST gets its first musical spoofs
Baba Sehgal is on the ball, and is that an Arun Jaitley spoof?
The new Goods and Services Tax (GST) rolled out with much fanfare by the government might be not even a day old, but the internet is already swarming with songs and parodies inspired by it.
So enthused is Baba Sehgal by the turn of events that it made the 1990s popstar step out of the shadows to come up with a primer of sorts for the new tax simply titled GST. The lyrics are, well, rather amusingly risqué, given the subject:
Bajenge bajenge drum aur sax,
Bharenge bharenge, sab ek tax,
Laagu ho gaya GST,
Now people show some honesty!
GST, GST, GST, don’t be lusty
GST, GST, now people show some honesty
The YouTube channel Bollywood Gandu by comedian Karan Talwar, meanwhile, has done a parody of “cringe-pop” singer Dhinchak Pooja’s hit track Selfie Maine Leli Aaj featuring the man of the moment Finance Minister Arun Jaitley singing about the GST. “Sabki main leta jaaun, apne tax plan se...Sabki maine leli raj, apna chalta gunda raaj,” croons the cartoon version of Jaitley (video below), and in the background, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leader Amit Shah also appear to be grooving.
