Watch: This dog gently rescued earthworms from hot asphalt. Or did it?
The average dog does not pick up earthworms from the road and deposit them on the grass, does it?
Other dogs fetch, bark, and sleep. Not Holliday, who rescues earthworms and saves them from incredibly hot roads.
Holliday has been saving earthworms ever since she was a little puppy. She’s always gentle with the little worms and deposits them safely in the grass, as the video above shows.
But is this canine compassion? A thread on Reddit has sparked a debate, with people wondering what could have led the dog to such an act. As one user commented, “...no need for a sciencebot. Buy a big fat bucket of worms and an equally big fat bag of doggy treats. Spend the next few few crucial hours of your life training dog to put worm in grass. No worms were harmed during the training of this doggy.”
Another commentator
came up with a slightly different theory. “The dog saw its owner doing this. Then it did it and got lots of attention, now it’s a learned behaviour.”
