Vikas is one of the hundreds of thousands of teenagers growing up in a Mumbai slum. With the mobile internet now being within reach of even inexpensive phone plans, many of those teenagers now go online regularly.

How has Vikas used this opportunity? He uses the internet to supplement his school education, and has even taught himself to make videos and start a personal tech channel on YouTube, called Mad About Tech. It tells others how to use their laptops and phones for everyday tasks, and Vikas can’t have enough of the feedback he gets.

This video (above) made by UNICEF, features Vikas’s story. Now that it has changed his own life, Vikas is a passionate advocate of the right to internet usage for all. According to a study by UNICEF, only 29% of India’s internet users are women and girls.

Here is one of Vikas’s video tutorials, shot, as he explains, on a mobile with the help of a friend.
