Watch: Facebook has a made this film to convince you it is serious about fighting fake news
Can the company roll out the technology needed to tell fake news from real without cutting into freedom of speech?
After being interrogated by the US and EU governments for the role played by Facebook in facilitating fake news, false propaganda and, even worse, sale of personal data, CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been quick to roll out a stream of communication from the networking giant aimed at rebuilding trust.
Facing Facts, subtitled “An Inside Look At Facebook’s Fight Against Misinformation”, is one such effort (video above). The short film goes to great lengths to convince everyone that the product managers and engineers have deconstructed the problem into specific components and are working hard on solutions.
More important, perhaps, is that the film also acknowledges that Facebook has made mistakes in the way it has approached the whole thing till now, allowing the problem to be heightened. Of course, there is no mention of selling personal data.
