Watch: Comedian Anuvab Pal pokes fun at India’s colonial legacy and ‘the world’s first Brexit’
From accents to a culture of politeness, Pal hilariously dissects everything the British left behind in India.
In the right hands, India’s colonial past can be a gold mine for comedy material. Such as those of Anuvab Pal’s, for instance, who has been milking it for all it’s worth to make his audiences laugh.
In a recent stand-up comedy act as part of the BBC’s Big British Asian Summer – a line-up that showcases a new wave of talent – used his post-colonial perspective to bring out the difference between cultures in India and Britain.
The Mumbai-based comedian took digs at the accent and urge to be polite that he acquired, thanks to the legacy the colonisers left behind, and cheekily called their departure from India “the world’s first Brexit.”
