Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Wednesday that his government has got the Centre's approval for the odd-even number plate formula for vehicles plying in the city. Kejriwal discussed the matter with home minister Rajnath Singh and said that official vehicles will also be covered under the policy, reported PTI.

"Rajnath Singh assured us full cooperation in [the] implementation of [the] odd-even scheme," said Kejriwal. He added that the government will consider some concerns flagged by the home minister, such as exempting vehicles carrying patients or those being driven by women. Meanwhile, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers said it is unfair to single out cars for pollution as their share in vehicular emissions is only around 10%.

On Tuesday, the Delhi government announced that the scheme would be tested from January 1-15 and will be applicable from 8 am to 8 pm every day, except for Sunday. According to the government's formula, cars with odd-numbered number plates will be allowed to ply on the roads on odd dates, while those with even-numbered number plates will run on even dates. All cars will be allowed on the roads on Sunday.
