Endangered red panda goes missing from Japan zoo, found after frantic search
The zoo launched a massive hunt operation, including all its staff members and search dog, for Sumire after she disappeared from her enclosure on Wednesday.
A Japanese zoo deputed its entire staff to look for a red panda after it went missing on Wednesday. The red panda is an endangered species, with a wild population of less than 10,000. The panda, Sumire, was found after an extensive search by around 20 zoo workers and three dogs. She was found in an area behind the zoo, which is in the outskirts of Mount Fuji, AFP reported. The zoo had warned anyone who spotted her not to try and recover her themselves.
Earlier, in 2012, a penguin had escaped from a Japan zoo and was missing for 82 days before it was finally found.
