Marathwada villagers do a Viru, demand water supply from top of tank
Villagers replicated actor Dharmendra’s famous scene of shouting from the top of a water tank in the film 'Sholay'.
Villagers in Maharashtra's Marathwada region took inspiration from one of Indian cinema's most iconic films to demand the release of water from the Jaikwadi Dam. According to PTI, the villagers replicated actor Dharmendra’s famous scene of shouting from the top of a water tank tower in the film Sholay. Several villagers in the Paithan tehsil climbed atop a water tank and asked for the supply to their village to be restored.
Despite summer being months away, the water situation in Maharashtra, particularly in Marathwada, is already a cause of concern. The demand for water tankers has shot up and the state is staring at an acute water shortage for the third consecutive year, according to the report. The water level in Marathwada dams has dropped to 8%.
