Bengaluru's M Chinnaswamy Stadium has been proposed as the new venue to host the Indian Premier League final on May 29, in place of Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium, reported PTI. This comes two days after the Bombay High Court ruled that cricket grounds in Maharashtra cannot host any IPL matches after April 30 in order to reduce wastage of water in the drought-hit state.

IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla told ANI that the Mumbai Indians and Rising Pune Super Giants franchises, who were both affected by the court ruling, were given four options as alternate venues – Raipur, Visakhapatnam, Kanpur and Jaipur. He further said that the Pune-based franchise has opted to move its matches to Visakhapatnam, while the Mumbai Indians have asked for two days' time to choose a venue.

Shukla added that the tournament organisers will propose to the governing council to move the final and the first qualifier to Bengaluru, and the second qualifier and the eliminator match to Kolkata.
