Honda Cars India Ltd on Thursday announced it will recall as many as 1,90,578 cars from across the country and voluntarily replace faulty passenger front airbag inflators, reported PTI. These faulty airbag inflators, manufactured by Japanese company Takata, are found in the Accord, CR-V, Civic, City and Jazz models manufactured between 2003 and 2011.

The replacement of inflators will be carried out in a phased manner, starting with the CR-V and Civic, from September. “The replacement will be carried out free of cost at HCIL dealerships across India. The company will communicate with customers directly,” said HCIL in a statement. Honda car owners can check if their vehicles will have to be sent to dealerships by submitting their 17-character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number on a special microsite available on hondacarindia.com, reported The Indian Express.

This is the seventh recall issued by the Japanese carmaker in India in the last two years, said The Times of India. Honda is not the only car-maker to have recalled vehicles because of the faulty airbag inflator. The problem has affected manufacturers including BMW, Daimler Trucks, Chrysler, Ford, General Motors, Nissan, Subaru, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Toyota. Ten other car makers have recalled around 100 million vehicles over faulty airbags supplied by Takata. In June, Toyota also recalled 1.43 million cars over the same problem, though those airbags were not manufactured by Takata.
