Indian Olympic Association seeks to replace Narsingh Yadav with Parveen Rana at Rio
In a release, United World Wrestling announced that they had received a request from the IOA to enter a different contender.
The Wrestling Federation of India has sent a request to United World Wrestling, the world governing body for the sport, to replace Narsingh Yadav, India's representative in the 74 kg freestyle wrestling event with Parveen Rana.
United World Wrestling revealed the details in an release on their official website on Tuesday.
"A report filed by the National Anti-Doping Agency of India last week states that 74 kg freestyle wrestler Narsingh Yadav has failed an out-of-competition anti-doping test," it said. "United World Wrestling informed the Indian Olympic Association last week that since the positive test occurred outside of the qualification event they would be allowed replace Yadav with another wrestler, or else vacate the qualification spot.
The Indian Olympic Association informed United World Wrestling of their desire to enter Parveen Rana as the nation’s replacement at 74kg in men’s freestyle."
Yadav, the original representative in the category, tested positive for a banned substance in a test conducted by the National Anti-Doping Agency earlier this week. He claimed that he was the victim of a conspiracy, and the Wrestling Federation of India also backed his claim. The matter is currently under investigation.
