Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday said he had yet to receive a formal invitation for Samajwadi Party’s foundation day programme on November 5, PTI reported. The Janata Dal (United) chief said efforts were made to unify six parties to form Janata Parivar in the past, but it was not successful. The alliance was being forged under the chairmanship of SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav before the Assembly elections in Bihar in 2015.

"But, it will be wrong to assume that such efforts will not be made again or will not succeed in the future," Kumar said. The ruling party in UP reportedly plans to invite all the political parties who were involved in the proposed Janata Parivar for its foundation day programme. The SP is believed to be looking to form a grand alliance to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party in the upcoming elections in the state. Uttar Pradesh will go for polls in 2017.
