Six bodies have been recovered from the debris of the building that collapsed in Hyderabad on Thursday night. At least ten people are feared dead after the seven-storey, under-construction structure in Nanakramguda area fell while labourers were busy with tiling and plumbing work, officials of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation said, Hindustan Times reported.

Police have arrested one accused in connection with the collapse and are on the lookout for another. National Disaster Response Force Director General RK Pachnanda said at least eight people are trapped under the rubble.

Several people, including a child, were rescued from the site and are undergoing treatment at a local hospital, according to ANI. Hyderabad Mayor B Rammohan said about 10 families, mostly labourers, lived in the premises, PTI reported. Residents of area said that five families were inside the building when it caved in. Civic officials believe that the property, which was in the final stages of construction, could have collapsed because of weak foundation.

While GHMC Commissioner Janardhan Reddy said that the construction process flouted several rules. State Home Affairs Minister N Narsimha Reddy, among other leaders, as well as the teams of the National Disaster Response Force, municipal body and the Cyberabad Police, reached the site soon after the incident took place around 10.30 pm.

Rescue operations are under way.
