United States President-elect Donald Trump said he would not allow companies to replace Americans by foreign workers, Reuters reported. Trump’s comments come after Disney World was slapped with lawsuits by former employees for allegedly displacing American workers with foreign labour, including Indians.

“We will fight to protect every last American life,” Trump said. Speaking at a rally in Iowa, Trump on Friday said during his campaigning days he had spent time with American workers who were laid off and forced to train their replacements.

“Can you believe that? You get laid off and then they won’t give you your severance pay unless you train the people that are replacing you. I mean, that’s actually demeaning maybe more than anything else,” he said.

Trump also reiterated that he will build the wall along the Mexican border and “stop drugs from pouring into our country”. “We will stop the drugs from poisoning our great and beautiful and loving youth. OK? We’ll do it,” PTI quoted him as saying.

Former Disney World employees Leo Perrero and Dena Moore – two of 250 workers who were laid off – filed lawsuit against the company for allegedly “conspiring to displace American workers with cheaper foreign labour”. Information Technology firms HCL Inc and Cognizent Technologies are also facing class action lawsuits.

It was recently reported that India’s Information Technology firms had decided to hire more locals and step up acquisitions in the United States following Trump’s elections as the country’s president. During his election campaign, Trump had said “I will end forever the use of H1-B [visa] as a cheap labour programme.” Companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, Infosys and Wipro are among the most frequent users of the H1-B visa, Reuters reported.
