Nokia has officially announced the dates for an exclusive India launch event and fans can now mark ‘August 21’ on their calendars to witness the launch of the yet unnamed device, since Nokia has been tight-lipped about the handset it is to reveal at the event. HMD Global has sent out media invites for the event on August 21st in India, where it is expected to unveil new smartphones, an NDTV Gadgets report says.

Nokia recently released a teaser about an exclusive launch event wherein Nokia fans were asked to participate in a contest to join the next exclusive launch event in the country.

It is largely speculated that the Finnish smartphone maker will launch the Nokia 6.1 Plus, the global variant of the Nokia X6 that was launched in China in May, at the event. While there is no official confirmation on what to expect at the launch event, the speculation settles on the Nokia 6.1 Plus because Nokia has already launched the global variant for the Hong Kong market.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus, an Android One smartphone, was launched in Hong Kong with a price tag of HKD 2,288 (roughly Rs.20,000 on conversion). There are no details on the handset’s price in India yet. However, if it is indeed the Nokia 6.1 Plus that is launched, it is expected to be a mid-range phone that bears a dual rear camera setup with a primary 16-megapixel sensor and a secondary 5-megapixel sensor. It is also tipped to get an equally powerful (16-megapixel) front-facing camera.

The Nokia 6.1 Plus features a 5.8-inch full HD+ screen with a display notch. The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 processor, which is accompanied with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There is also another variant, with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of on-board memory.
