The Android P or Android 9 Pie update is finally being rolled out for select users. Google’s new mobile operating system is available for Pixel users. Additionally, an over-the-air (OTA) update of Android P is being rolled out for the Essential phone as well.

Google has been working with other smartphone brands including Sony, Xiaomi, Nokia, Oppo, Vivo, and OnePlus to bring Android Pie update to some of their phones, an India Today report says.

Google’s own Pixel phones such as the Pixel, the Pixel XL, the Pixel 2, and the Pixel 2 XL will get the Android P update first. It is expected that in the coming months all the devices that had been signed up for the Android P beta program including the OnePlus 6, Oppo R15 Pro, Vivo X21 and more will be getting the Android P update.

At the launch of Google’s annual developer conference in May, the tech giant had highlighted the underpinnings of the update. In terms of user interface, Android P is bringing in the notch support owing to a flurry of Android devices being released with a display notch.

There are also gesture-based navigation controls on Android Pie and there is also a brand new UI for the apps that were recently used. A small bar at the bottom which upon being pressed will open a horizontal line of recently-used apps.

A novel addition on Android P is the ‘well being’ feature that overviews individual’s interaction with the phone. Here, time spent on the device and interaction period with applications is monitored by an AI including minor interactions like how many times the phone was unlocked by the user.
