In India, Pune most liveable city, Rampur worst, as per Ease of Living Index 2018

  • Pune, Navi Mumbai and Greater Mumbai from Maharashtra ranked as India’s three most liveable places on the government’s inaugural ‘Ease of Living Index’.
  • A total 111 cities were included in the survey, and the national capital came 65th.
  • Rampur in Uttar Pradesh figured at the bottom of the liveability index, which is released by the Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry.
  • Kohima (Nagaland) and Patna (Bihar) were the other 2 cities placed in the bottom three.
  • In the top-ten, the three cities from Maharashtra were followed by Tirupati, Chandigarh, Thane, Raipur, Indore, Vijayawada and Bhopal.

Ashish Kumar Bhutani appointed CEO of PM crop insurance scheme

  • Senior bureaucrat Ashish Kumar Bhutani has been appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
  • The PMFBY was launched in 2016 and is in line with the ‘one nation one scheme’ theme.
  • The PMFBY incorporates the best features of all previous schemes.
  • At the same time, all previous shortcomings and weaknesses have been removed to ensure faster insurance services or reliefs to farmers.

DAC approves procurement of six next generation offshore patrol vessels

  • The Defence Acquisition Council (DAC) has approved the procurement of six Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels (NGOPVs) for the Indian Navy.
  • The NGOPVs are indigenously designed and manufactured.
  • The six NGOPVs will come at an approximate cost of Rs. 4,941 crore.
  • The NGOPVs will be built in indigenous shipyards and will be fitted with state-of-the-art sensor suite with increased endurance.
  • These platforms are expected to strengthen maritime security by undertaking many operational roles both in blue water and littorals.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurates NDMC Smart City projects

  • Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has inaugurated the Smart City projects, which is expected to help New Delhi transform into a world class city.
  • The Smart City projects are being undertaken by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
  • The BJP politician also launched MTNL’s hi-speed Broadband on Optical Fiber and Hi-Speed Wi-Fi in Connaught Place.
  • A few of the other projects inaugurated by Rajnath Singh include Smart Poles, Solar Tree, Ideation Centre, 50 LED interactive screens, Ambedkar Vatika and two hi-tech nurseries.

Chhattisgarh first to provide Right to Skills’ Development to youth

  • Chhattisgarh CM Raman Singh said that the state has become the first in India to provide Right to Skills’ Development to the youth.
  • Singh and State Union Minister for Skill Development Anant Kumar Hegde launched 15 Skill Chariots for the government’s ‘Skills on Wheels’ project.
  • The chariots will tour 13 districts in the first phase and the remaining 14 districts in the second phase.

Viraj Madappa becomes youngest Indian golfer to win Asian Tour title

  • Indian golfer Viraj Madappa became the youngest Indian to win on the Asian Tour.
  • The 20-year-old won his first title on the Asian Tour at Take Solutions Masters in Bengaluru.
  • Madappa scored a total of 16-under 268 at the Asian Tour event.
  • The previous record was held by Gaganjeet Bhullar, who won the Indonesia Invitational when he was 21 years and three months old.
