The speculations about a foldable smartphone from Samsung has now been confirmed straight from the horse’s mouth. The CEO of the South Korean company, DJ Koh, in an interview published on Forbes said, the company is not just in the process of developing a Galaxy with a folding display, but it is in a race to get this potentially game-changing phone to the market.

Earlier reports have pointed out to the fact that Apple and LG have patented a foldable display smartphone technology. Even China-based Huawei has been rumoured to be in the race to launch the ‘first’ foldable smartphone. Acknowledging the competition, the company added that it “didn’t want to lose the world’s first title.”

The phone has been earlier rumoured to be called as the Galaxy F, a lineup of smartphones which Samsung had abandoned back in 2014. Speaking about the upcoming smartphone, Koh stressed that Samsung is “focusing on developing innovations that will be genuinely accepted and liked by consumers”.

The delightful news though is that Galaxy F will not be just a one-off concept, but the beginning of a long-running new range. Koh explained, “We wouldn’t have started [the project] if it was a going to be a one-time thing.”

The next year will be the 10-year anniversary of the Galaxy S-series and the company will launch its S10 phone with some new innovative features. But it definitely won’t be able to beat the hype generated by the first foldable phone.
