Delhi: Government cites dubious registration of address proof for cancellation
The Delhi Transport Department on Tuesday cancelled permits for 2,500 chartered buses because their registered addresses were found to be dubious. This decision comes after the Union Home Ministry asked the Delhi government to verify all owners and permit holders of public vehicles in the aftermath of the notorious gangrape in December, 2012. The government faced severe criticism when the bus used in the crime was found to have been registered under a fake address.

Uttar Pradesh: CBI says there is no evidence to prove that Badaun sisters were raped
Central Bureau of Investigation officials on Tuesday said that there was no evidence to show that the women found hanging from a mango tree in Badaun in May had been  raped before they were killed. Initial post mortem reports had earlier suggested that  women had been sexuall assaulted. Five men have been arrested in the case thus far.

Assam: Blockade of Nagaland ends, clashes in Assam leave one dead
Central forces were sent to Golaghat district on Tuesday to ease tensions on the border between Assam and Nagaland. This follows clashes between Assamese residents and paramilitary forces that left 21 injured and one dead. The protesters were angry about the alleged killings of local residents by Naga militants last week. The Assam police also managed to break the blockade by agitators in Golaghat district on National Highway-39 that leads into Nagaland .

Maharashtra: Shiv Sena backs Mohan Bhagwat, says India is a Hindu country
Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday backed Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat's claim that India was a Hindu nation. “I support the comments made by Mohan Bhagwat," Thackeray told reporters on Tuesday. "When he says that India is a Hindu nation, what’s wrong with it? Balasaheb Thackeray used to say the same thing for a long time."

Kerala: Kochi police attempts to curb overtaking on city roads
Traffic police in Kochi putting into place measures to enforce the Kerala High Court's directive to curb overtaking by private buses. The police have imposed a speed limit of 35 km per hour and speed interceptors will be installed at accident-prone junctions. "Bus permits of offenders will be cancelled in coordination with the Motor Vehicles Department,” said senior police officer KS Baby Vinod.
