The National Investigation Agency on Friday claimed that the four people arrested in the Burdwan blast case in West Bengal were members of terror group Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh, who were preparing improvised explosive devices to be transported across the border. Two people, both allegedly citizens of Bangladesh, were killed while manufacturing IEDs on October 2, and another was injured. The survivor was arrested by the NIA, along with three others. The development comes two weeks after the NIA took over the investigation from the state authorities.
Maharashtra: Uddhav Thackeray not attending PM's high tea
All the Shiv Sena's 18 MPs will attend the high tea being hosted in Delhi by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, though party leader Uddhav Thackeray will not be present. The Sena said that its leader would not be attending since it was only for the MPs belonging to the ruling alliance. The event comes amid talk of reconciliation between the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Sena, which recent snapped their long-standing electoral alliance in Maharashtra. This is Modi's first meeting with all the MPs of the National Democratic Alliance since assuming office in May.
Goa: Government forms Ebola committee
The Goa government has put in place a committee to monitor the state's preparedness to keep the Ebola virus in check, considering the state sees over half a million foreign tourists every year. The committee consists of the state' senior health officials, police and immigration officials.
Andhra Pradesh: Venkaiah Naidu to adopt cyclone-struck village
Union urban development minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Friday announced that he would adopt Cheppala Uppada, a fishermen's village in Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh that was left devastated by cyclone Hudhud. Naidu plans to contribute Rs 25 lakh from the MP local area development scheme towards reconstructing the village and its adjoining hamlets. The union minister held a review meeting with officials of 22 public sector units and government departments here.
Uttar Pradesh: BJP leader shot outside home
District-level Bharatiya Janata Party leader Raj Kumar was shot dead by three men on a motorcycle outside his house in Bulandshahr district on Friday night. The police have detained two suspects. It was later revealed that Kumar, who is also a property dealer, had earlier received threats from the real-estate mafia for opposing the allegedly illegal takeover of a government plot in the town.
