Indians online just can’t get enough of kings and queens of yore being snarky about today’s politics. A new webcomic called Indelible India created by Rajesh Rajamani is fast going viral on Facebook. Inspired by writer-filmmaker Aarthi Parthasarthy’s weekly series called Royal Existentials, Inedible India is a set of medieval paintings turned into comic strips with dialogues discussing our world today added in.

“I always thought it was a cool idea to start a comic but I was very poor at sketching on my own,” said Rajamani, who was so taken up by Parthasarthy’s work that he immediately took up creating similar comics.

“I put it up on Facebook I was happy of it got 10 likes,” said Rajamani, a banker who lives in Chennai. But one strip he created death and violence became so popular, it took him by surprise. “That suddenly went to 2,500 shares and I wondered what was happening.”

Due to this sudden popularity, Rajamani has shifted his work from his personal Facebook page to a separate Inedible India account. Here’s a look at some of his comics.
