The Bharatiya Janata Party has hit out at the Congress after winning the Bengaluru civic elections, claiming that the people's mandate was against Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. This was the third straight win in municipal polls for the BJP following successes in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan earlier this month. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the result was an endorsement for politics of development and good governance.
Maharashtra: Media executive held for sister's murder
Three years after Mumbai resident Sheena Bora went missing, the city police has arrested her sister Indrani Mukerjea for her involvement in the murder. Indrani Mukherjea is wife of ex-CEO of Star TV Peter Mukherjea. The couple are co-founders of the INX network. The police claimed that Indrani Mukherjea’s arrest was neccessary after they obtained specific leads linking her to the incident. They said that Bora had been kidnapped and murdered. He rbody was then set ablaze. Mukherjea’s lawyers have argued that she was falsely implicated and moved for bail.
Delhi: Arrested biker claims woman is seeking publicity
A day after biker Sarvajeet Singh was arrested and released on bail for abusing Delhi resident Jasleen Kaur, he accused his complainant of making her case public merely to gain publicity from it. "She is an AAP supporter and they are only reporting it," Singh claimed on Tuesday. "She is doing it for political mileage, she just wants to be famous." Kaur's Facebook post about Singh allegedly harassing her at a traffic light has gone viral, being shared over a lakh times. It also an prompted a quick response from the Delhi police, who arrested Singh within a day.
Bihar: BJP to contest 170 seats, says Choubey
A day after two of its allies said seat sharing arrangements for the upcoming Bihar poll must be completed within a week, a Bharatiya Janata Party leader announced that his organisation will contest 170 of the state's 243 assembly seats. "...There is no question of anything less than that," Ashwani Kumar Choubey, an MP and a former minister, said in Bhagalpur. Choubey was replying to statements from leaders of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and the Rashtriya Lok Samata Party that the BJP must contest only 102 seats and leave the remaining 141 to its three allies.
Jammu and Kashmir: Chief Secretary quits
Jammu and Kashmir chief secretary Muhammad Iqbal Khandey has decided to resign, reportedly over differences with the ruling coalition. Reports suggested that Khandey would seek voluntary retirement. The 1978 batch IAS officer became chief secretary of Jammu and Kashmir in 2013, when the National Conference-Congress alliance led by Omar Abdullah was in power.
