SHOPPING & STYLE ART Akshara: Crafting Indian Scripts at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya
The NGO Dastkari HaatSamiti, First Edition Arts and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya will host an exhibition of Indian arts and craft at the Coomaraswamy Hall that will feature Odissi pattachitra, kantha embroidery from West Bengal, Madhubani painting from Bihar and pottery from Uttar Pradesh. THEATRE Reading of Shafaat Khan’s Kisse at MCubed Library
Theatre actors Hemant Hajare, Hridaynath Jadhav, Manjiri Pupala and Priyanka Pulekar will read from Shafaat Khan’s 1983 Marathi play Kisse at this event organised by Tamaasha Theatre. A radical play at the time, both for its theme and the way in which it unfolds, Kisse is a comment on the middle class tendency to confine itself to intellectual and physical ghettos. FILM TALKS Breaking Free: Life Gets Better Together at Godrej India Culture Lab
This event on LGBT issues will begin with a panel discussion on accepting members of the queer community in the workplace as well as other areas of life. The panel will comprise Radhika Piramal, managing director of VIP Industries, who married her same-sex partner in 2011; Padma Iyer, mother of queer activist Harish Iyer who recently placed a matrimonial ad for her son in Mid-Day; Joe Zachariah, who headed the India LGBT Employee Resource Group in his former firm Goldman Sachs; and Farah Nathani-Menezies, head of diversity and inclusion at Godrej Industries. The discussion will be followed by a screening of Breaking Free, a film on the trials of the LGBT community in India directed by Sridhar Rangayan, who runs the annual Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival. FILM Agraharathil Kazhuthai at Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Museum
Tamil director John Abraham's 1977 film will be screened at this week's edition of Movies at the Museum. Considered a classic, the feature is a satire based around a superstitious village that begins to revere a professor's pet donkey. Ratheesh Radhakrishnan, assistant professor of humanities and social sciences at IIT Bombay, will introduce the film. The screening is free.

FILM Nave Valan at the NCPA Little Theatre
This edition of the annual festival of Marathi cinema will feature Court (2014), director Chaitanya Tamhane’s debut feature film about a singer-activist wrongly accused of suicide abetment caught in the slow grind of justice and Bioscope (2015), a suite of four films: Mitraa directed by Ravi Jadhav, Bail by GirishMohite, Ek Hota Kau by Viju Mane and Dili e Nadaan by GajendraAhire. The films are based on poems by SandipKhare, Loknath Yashwant, Saumitra and Mirza Ghalib respectively. The screenings are free.

ART Unpacking the Studio: Celebrating the JehangirSabavala Bequest at Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation
This exhibition comprises the late artist's paintings and personal articles such as diaries, sketchbooks and portfolios that were donated by his wife Shirin Sabavala to the Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation, which is housed inside the Chhatrapati Shivaji Mahara jVastu Sangrahalaya. The show, which has been curated by Ranjit Hoskote, places Jehangir Sabavala's work in the context of his artistic inspirations, his education in Mumbai, London and Paris, and his practice among his peers from the 1930s to the 1950s. Tickets to enter the museum are priced at Rs 70 per head for visitors above the age of 12, Rs 20 per head for children between the ages of five and 12 and Rs 300 per head for foreigners above the age of 12.

A show of video works and photographs of Kashmir by artists Amit Mehra, who lives in Delhi, and Veer Munshi, a native of Srinagar living in the capital. While Mehra has photographed Kashmiri landscapes and streetscapes, Munshi trained his lens on the ruined homes of displaced people.
