Just a day after signing an executive order instructing state agencies to restrict Syrian refugees from settling into Louisiana, Gov. Bobby Jindal announced on Tuesday that he was dropping out of the US presidential race.

"This is not my time," Jindal told Fox News. "I've come to the realization that this is not my time. So I've come here to announce that I am suspending my campaign for president of the United States."

Jindal, the first Indian American to become governor in an American state, who built it his candidacy on conservative Christian values and attacking what he termed as “radical Islam”, was once seen as a shining star in the Republican Party, which was looking to extend its support among the minorities.

The sheen, however, couldn’t last for long. Not once did Jindal top more than 2% in any CNN/ORC poll during his candidature and was never really able to make the mark in the presence of outsider candidates from the Republican party such as Donald Trump and Ben Carson.

Meanwhile, two of his aides spoke to CNN and said that Jindal couldn’t sustain the campaign anymore and came to this decision because he didn’t want to go into debt and realised that “there was no credible path to nomination.”
