Opting to bat first, India finished with 133/9 (Suryakumar 68 off 40).
In reply, SA finished with 137/5 19.4 overs (Miller 59 off 46).
Ind should lose to Ban & Zim or SA should lose to Ned for Pak to qualify
— Krishna Kumar (@KrishnaKRM) October 30, 2022
An exceptional knock from Miller with South Africa having lost early wickets. He hit 27 off 13 against Ashwin and 29 off 33 against the pacers. Well crafted knock with calculated risks to take his team over the line.

Contrary to popular belief, if Pakistan is knocked out, it won't be because India lost to SA. It'll be because Pakistan lost to Zimbabwe :) #INDvSA #T20WorldCup

India could have been on the right side of this result but they were really let down by their fielding.

From 5 off 15 and then 16 off 25, he finishes the match unbeaten on 59 off 46. Milled it, again.#T20WorldCup #INDvSA

Player of the match: SA pacer Lungi Ngidi, for his bowling figures of 4/29, gets the award.
SA 137/5 (19.4 overs): Miller drives the ball over the off side ring to get four more and finish the match. He remains unbeaten on a fantastic 59 off 46. SA go top of the table.
South Africa win by 5 wickets
SA 133/5 (19.3 overs): Four! Bhuvi bangs it in and Miller attempts a pull with a hard swing, he gloves it and picks four past the keeper. SA need 1 off 3.
SA 129/5 (19.2 overs): One run. This time Parnell taps it to the off side and completes a single. SA need 5 off 4.
SA 128/5 (19.1 overs): Dot. Parnell tries to work the ball to the leg side but is struck on his pad. SA need 6 off 5.
6 runs. 6 balls. 🤞🤞🤞
— Mumbai Indians (@mipaltan) October 30, 2022
SA 128/5 (19 overs): Shami ends the over with a dot and finishes with brilliant figures of 1/13. Parnell will be on strike as Bhuvi begins the last over of the match. SA need 6 off 6. Can India pull off another heist?
SA 126/5 (18.1 overs): FIfty for Miller! He cuts one for four and brings up a 40-ball half-century. Shami returns to the attack and is hit for a boundary first up. SA need 8 off 11.
SA 122/5 (18 overs): Ashwin bowls consecutive dot balls to Parnell and finishes with figures of 1/43. The off-spinner with a warning to Miller at the non-striker’s end there, after the left-hander walked out before the ball was released. SA need 12 off 12.
SA 122/5 (17.4 overs): OUT! Ashwin traps Stubbs in front after Miller hits him for sixes off the first two balls of the over. The off-spinner is pumped as Stubbs walks back for 6 off 6. SA need 12 off 14 as Parnell comes to the crease.
SA 109/4 (17 overs): Seven runs from that Arshdeep over as Stubbs pulls one for four. The left-arm pacer, who picked two wickets in his first over, finishes with figures of 2/25. Ashwin is returning for his final over, this is massive. SA need 25 off 18.
Bouncer to Stubbs. Please. Abhi.

Quality sauce! @AidzMarkram #INDvsSA
— Tom Moody (@TomMoodyCricket) October 30, 2022
SA 100/4 (15.4 overs): OUT! Pandya gets India the breakthrough as Markram pulls it to Suryakumar at deep mid-wicket. The right-hander walks back for a fine 52 off 41, and India believe again. SA need 34 off 26. The new batter is Tristan Stubbs.
DK was clutching his lower back as he walked off the field.
Rishabh Pant has taken the wicketkeeping gloves as Dinesh Karthik is off the field injured. Not sure at the moment what the injury is.
That dropped catch... and runout miss combo... complete change (read drop) in India's intensity. #IndvSA #IndvsSA #T20WorldCup
— Chetan Narula (@chetannarula) October 30, 2022
SA 95/3 (15 overs): Fifty for Markram! He gets there off 38 balls. The right-hander was confident from the moment he came to the crease despite the poor start for SA, and has hit six fours and a six so far. Arshdeep returns to the attack and concedes 10 runs in his third over. SA need 39 off 30.
With Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in a span of a few deliveries, we get to see possibly the lowest level of fielding in international cricket. India hit us out of nowhere, again.#T20WorldCup #INDvSA
— Aditya Chaturvedi (@aditya_c19) October 30, 2022
SA 85/3 (14 overs): Markram and Miller both hit sixes in that Ashwin over and SA are well and truly in the driver’s seat now. Those fielding mistakes would’ve definitely deflated the team. SA need 49 off 36.
Sigh. https://t.co/hVUYuX0Uuz
— Vinayakk (@vinayakkm) October 30, 2022
SA 68/3 (13 overs): A brilliant over from Shami, just three runs from it. But India with another shocking moment in the field. This time Rohit with an underarm throw from close range and all three stumps to aim at, after taking time to set himself up, but he missed. Miller the lucky batter this time.

— Gulu Ezekiel (@gulu1959) October 30, 2022
Oh god Kohli :(
— Vipul (@Sporty_Baba) October 30, 2022
SA 65/3 (12 overs): Dropped! Oh dear, Kohli has dropped an easy catch at deep mid-wicket. Markram hit it straight to him and he juggled the ball but couldn’t hold on. He has a wry smile as Ashwin and Rohit look in belief. That could prove to be a decisive moment in the match.
SA 56/3 (11 overs): Expensive, poor over by Pandya. Markram gets a top edge for four before Miller pulls it in the gap for his first boundary. Pandya then bowls a quick bouncer to end the over, which flies over DK for four byes. SA now need 78 off 54.
SA 40/3 (10 overs): Good start by Ashwin as he concedes just five singles in his first over. Miller has moved to 5 off 15 and has hardly looked in control. South Africa have reached the halfway stage of their innings in trouble, they need 94 off 60 with 7 wickets in hand.
SA 35/3 (9 overs): Markram survives! Miller taps it and takes a step forward before deciding against taking a single, Markram scampers back and puts in a dive and would’ve been out had Rohit hit the stumps. The India captain ran in and turned before releasing the throw but just missed his mark. Meanwhile, the end of a fiery over by Hardik as he tested his Gujarat Titans teammate Miller with some serious pace and bounce. Good stuff. Ashwin is joining the attack now as India introduce spin.
SA 33/3 (8 overs): Miller just about survives. Shami struck him in front from around the wicket and the umpire said not-out, Rohit took the review and it showed the slightest inside edge. Ball tracking wasn’t shown but that probably would’ve been out. Miller is struggling on 2 off 8 at the moment.
SA 32/3 (7 overs): Pandya joins the attack right after the powerplay and Markram hits his third four with a stylish on-the-rise cover-drive. Eight runs from that over.

SA 24/3 (5.4 overs): OUT! Shami strikes in his first over! Bavuma’s ordeal comes to an end as he attempts a scoop but finds DK, who takes a fine diving catch. The SA skipper walks back for 10 off 15. Miller is the new batter.
Swing to help swing fortunes! #INDvSA
— Shikha Pandey (@shikhashauny) October 30, 2022
SA 21/2 (5 overs): Bavuma is beaten again repeatedly in that over by Bhuvi but he ends it by pulling hard and getting a top edge for six. South Africa needed that, their skipper needed that. Shami is joining the attack now.
SA 13/2 (4 overs): Markram picks his second four by getting on top of the bounce and punching it past gully. But another solid over by Arshdeep, five dot balls in it.

— Vipul (@Sporty_Baba) October 30, 2022
SA 3/2 (1.3 overs): OUT! Arshdeep Singh has changed the complexion of this game three delivceries into his spell! Now the in-form Rossouw is out LBW. The left-hander tried to whip it across but was struck in front, Arshdeep wasn’t keen on a review and reckoned the ball was going down leg, but a brilliant review by Rohit after consulting with DK. Three reds on DRS and the crowd erupts. The new batter is Markram.
Arshdeep and first ball wickets 😍
— TarEEK! LaSCARE 👻🎃 (@tarequelaskar) October 30, 2022
SA 3/1 (1.1 overs): OUT! Arshdeep Singh, you beauty! The left-arm pacer shapes the first ball away from QdK and the left-hander goes for a drive only to edge it to Rahul at second slip. Just the start India would’ve hoped for. South Africa under pressure now as the in-form Rossouw comes to the crease.
SA 3/0 (1 over): A quality first over by Bhuvi, he beats Bavuma thrice with wonderful deliveries that nipped away. The SA skipper walks across once and pulls it over the in-field for two.
6.18 pm: The players are back on the field and we’re ready for the chase.

— Anand Sachar (@anandsachar29) October 30, 2022
India 133/9 (20 overs): India pick one run with a bye before Arshdeep pulls the last ball and runs two with Bhuvneshwar. After being 49/5 in the 9th over, India will take this. They have a chance here, all thanks to a sensational 68 off 40 by Suryakumar. Ngidi (4/29) and Parnell (3/15) were the pick of the bowlers for South Africa.
India finish with 133/9
India 130/9 (19.4 overs): OUT! Shami is run-out for a two-ball duck. Nortje does well to gather the ball in his follow through and hit the stumps. The last batter for India is Arshdeep.
Surya falls after making 68 of the finest runs you will see. It is also the kind of innings that makes one wish he gets a chance at the Test level too.
— Ashish Magotra (@clutchplay) October 30, 2022
Best T20 batter in the world today? Look no further than Surya Kumar Yadav!
— Sanjay Manjrekar (@sanjaymanjrekar) October 30, 2022
India 127/8 (18.5 overs): OUT! Third wicket for Parnell and it’s the big one of Suryakumar! This time SKY gets a top edge attempting a pull and is caught at mid-off. He walks back for a stunning, memorable 68 off 40. The new batter is Shami. This could be a match-winning wicket for the Proteas.
India 124/7 (18.1 overs): OUT! Parnell gets his second wicket and Rabada his third catch as Ashwin miscues a pull. The right-hander departs for 7 off 11 as Bhuvi comes to the crease.
Uff, SKY.https://t.co/jj0olraeg0 pic.twitter.com/mRL9D8sCyj
— Vinayakk (@vinayakkm) October 30, 2022
India 124/6 (18 overs): Rabada bowls it short and Surya slaps it straight over for four. There is no direction in the park he won’t pick a boundary from. Nine runs from that over as Rabada finishes with 0/26.
This is @surya_14kumar ‘s best inning so far. Brilliant 👏

— Rajneesh Gupta (@rgcricket) October 30, 2022
India 115/6 (17 overs): Suryakumar Yadav is playing a truly epic knock. He cuts hard and gets a thick edge for four after Maharaj bowls it quicker, before sweeping the ball fine for another four. Such calculated, brilliant batting. Moves on to 61 off 36.

— Faf Du Plessis (@faf1307) October 30, 2022
No one has been able to control the bounce today — even elite players of pace like Rohit, Kohli and DK. Even SKY hasn’t been in full control of it, but his shot selection has meant he’s used the bounce to manipulate the ball and score runs behind the wicket. Fascinating contest.

This is a stunning innings from Surya. He arrived with India 26 for 2 and they were 49 for 5 not long after. Not only has he held the innings together but he's done so while scoring at nearly 10 runs per over. Ridiculously good T20 batting. #T20WorldCup

Here’s a feature I did on SKY recently:https://t.co/0EFupMY5lb#T20WorldCup #INDvSA
India 101/6 (15.1 overs): OUT! Parnell returns to the attack and picks his first wicket. DK plays his first real shot with aggression – a slog really with no balance – and skies it to get caught at point. He walks back for a forgettable 6 off 15. The new batter is Ashwin.

A 92-m six behind the wickets off the guy who had figures of 4/17 at this point. SKY 👏🏽https://t.co/jj0olraeg0 pic.twitter.com/HOO6bCTpTg
India 99/5 (11.4 overs): FIFTY of the highest quality by Suryakumar Yadav. And what a way to get there. He first pulled Ngidi fine for a huge six, and then gets his half-century off 30 deliveries with a thumping on-drive for four.
Suryakumar Yadav is an absolute delight to watch, what a special talent. #T20WC2022 #INDvSA
— Tom Moody (@TomMoodyCricket) October 30, 2022
India 89/5 (14 overs): Markram joins the attack and bowls a solid over for SA, just five singles from it. Both right-handers deciding not to take any risk against the off-spinner.
India 84/5 (13 overs): Shot! Surya steps down the crease to Maharaj and hits it cleanly for six, straight over the short boundary behind the stumps. The right-hander moves to 37 off 23. Good over for India, 11 runs from it.
India 73/5 (12 overs): Rabada returns to the attack and concedes just six runs in his third over. Surya with a nice flick past mid-wicket for three. Karthik, meanwhile, defending with a straight bat, has crawled his way to 2 off 9.
Spicy pitch. Quality pace. Perth is doing exactly what most of us had anticipated… #IndvSA was India’s biggest test in the league phase of this #T20WorldCup
— Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) October 30, 2022
India 67/5 (11 overs): South Africa introduce spin after the break and SKY cuts the first ball for four. But Maharaj does well to concede just three runs in the rest of the over. India will perhaps be happy if they can get to around 100 without losing another wicket at the start of the 16th over.
Proteas bowling with some proper heat… India going to try and up the run rate vs Spin #INDvsSA #T20WorldCup
— Paul Adams (@PaulAdams39) October 30, 2022
This is the most intense 10 overs of T20 cricket you will see. Raw pace on display and India tried to counter it with more fire. Not a dull moment
— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) October 30, 2022
This is hyper-aggressive captaincy from South Africa and they’ve reaped the rewards. The typical strategy for a team with their setup would’ve been rushing through Maharaj post-powerplay. The picked up a wicket in each of the first 3 post-PP overs by continuing with pace.
— Karthikeya (@KarthikeyaCric) October 30, 2022
India 60/5 (10 overs): Shot! Suryakumar with a superb flick for six to give the Indian fans something to cheer about. But Nortje fights back with three consecutive dot balls. India have reached the halfway stage of their innings and have a lot left to do. South Africa are yet to use spin and once they do, India might want to attack.

What an athlete Rabada is !!! Pure Magic !!! India in trouble ! #INDvSA
— Jatin Paranjape (@jats72) October 30, 2022
India 49/5 (8.3 overs): OUT! What. A. Catch! Kagiso Rabada, take a bow! Ngidi continues his dream spell with a fourth wicket as Pandya is caught at fine-leg after middling a pull shot. That was a sensational catch by Rabada. The big man ran foward and put in a dive to pluck the ball. India have lost half their side as Pandya walks back for 2 off 3. The new batter is Karthik.
India just haven't looked comfortable against the extra pace and bounce. Can Surya and Pandya turn this around?
— Ashish Magotra (@clutchplay) October 30, 2022

— Chetan Narula (@chetannarula) October 30, 2022
India 42/4 (7.3 overs): OUT! A three-ball duck for Hooda, who is playing his first match of the tournament in place of Axar. Nortje gets the wicket as Hooda swings and edges it to the keeper. The new batter is Pandya. India are being blown away, yet again, in pace-friendly conditions.

Take out of the 50(19) vs Scotland last WC, the SR falls to 105.#INDvSA
India 41/3 (6.5 overs): OUT! Oh dear, Kohli is gone! Ngidi is on fire and has picked his third wicket. Kohli hits fours either side of the pitch earlier in the over but he miscues a pull and is caught at fine-leg. The right-hander walks back for 12 off 11 as Hooda comes to the crease. India are in trouble.
Vinayakk Mohanarangan: There are batters who get out trying to score runs. Then there is the Indian opener who is now getting out trying while trying not to get out. Anyone can go out of form, anyone can go through a lean phase, but this absolute lack of intent from Rahul is completely against what Rohit has asked for his team since taking over as captain. The first over, he just tucked his bat between his pads and let the ball go like this was Jo’Burg and the first hour belongs to the bowler.
India 33/2 (6 overs): A top delivery by Nortje to start his spell but it beats both Kohli and QdK as India get four byes. But another economical over for the Proteas.
Mind goes back to Vikram Rathour’s rather curt response when asked about Rahul’s spot during the PC yesterday. Utter cluelessness all round.#T20WorldCup #INDvSA
— Aditya Chaturvedi (@aditya_c19) October 30, 2022
I'd at least take the Rohit-type dismissal over the Rahul-type dismissal. Everything is just so... tentative, cautious. https://t.co/dFWxLURyEC
— Vinayakk (@vinayakkm) October 30, 2022
India 26/2 (5 overs): OUT! Ngidi gets two wickets in his first over! Rahul’s ordeal comes to an end as he literally guides the ball straight to second slip. He walks back for 9 off 14. Surely, surely that has to be the last of him at this World Cup. The new batter is SKY as Nortje joins the attack.
17 dot balls out of 26 bowled thus far. "The pressure brings the wicket," commentators would have said on another day, with another team batting.
— Prem Panicker (@prempanicker) October 30, 2022
India 23/1 (4.2 overs): OUT! Ngidi strikes with his second delivery! Rohit attempts a pull but the ball climbed on him and looped up after taking an edge, a simple return catch for the right-arm pacer. The India captain walks back for 15 off 14, with Rahul batting on 8 off 12 at the other end. Virat Kohli is the new batter.
India 21/0 (4 overs): Rabada bowls a low full toss and Rohit flicks it powerfully through square-leg for four. But another decent over for South Africa, just seven runs from it.
India 14/0 (3 overs): Parnell bowls one in the slot and Rahul hits it over mid-wicket for six. But just two more runs for India off the remaining five balls in the over, as Rahul is beaten again outside off.
A break in play as Rahul needs a checkup after getting hit where it hurts most.
That crack off Rohit's bat!! 👌
— Ashish Magotra (@clutchplay) October 30, 2022
India 6/0 (2 overs): Five dot balls in that over too. Rohit starts with three dots before pulling one for six. He then drives the last ball straight back in the air and Rabada does well to get a hand to it and block the ball. Could he counted as a half chance.
India have never taken longer to get off the mark in a T20I. #T20WorldCup
— Ben Jones (@benjonescricket) October 30, 2022
India 0/0 (1 over): Parnell with a maiden over to start things off. Rahul begins the innings by leaving consecutive balls with his bat tucked behind his pad. He is then beaten twice outside the off stump. That’s six deliveries India will never get back.
4.29 pm: The national anthems are done and we’re ready for play! It’s cold and windy out on the park and the Indian batters will surely be tested by the South Africa pacers in the powerplay. It promises to be a fascinating period of play. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul are at the crease. Here we go!
Vinayakk Mohanarangan: Mithali Raj (in the Star Sports studio) just said she couldn’t watch the final part of the India vs Pakistan match because she was too tense as a recently retired cricketer, just started pacing around and then heard her father’s reaction, later rewatched the finish.
36 - India's Rohit Sharma is set to play his 36th game in the ICC Men's @T20WorldCup, he will overtake Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan (35) as the most capped player in the history of the tournament. Veteran.#T20WorldCup pic.twitter.com/v3Fxks6g6S

Hello and welcome to live coverage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Group 2 match between India and South Africa in Perth.
It’s one of the most significant matches in Group 2, with both teams undefeated after two rounds. India edged out Pakistan before defeating Netherlands convincingly, while South Africa had to split points with Zimbabwe before getting a huge win against Bangladesh. Both teams have match-winners aplenty and the pace-friendly conditions in Perth will surely make things more interesting. A win for Rohit Sharma and Co will go a long way in securing them a spot in the semifinals. They’ve raised their game when they had to so far in the tournament, and will need to bring their best against an upbeat Proteas side.
