The Indian quartet of Dhinidhi Desinghu, Maana Patel, Janhvi Choudhary, and Shivangi Sarma finish seventh in the women’s 4x100m freestyle relay final.
7:30 PM: India began their Asian Games 2022 campaign in style on Sunday winning three silver and two bronze medals.
Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind singh won India’s first medals in Hangzhou clinching silver in the men’s lightweight double sculls rowing event. India won two more medals in rowing with the men’s eight team winning silver while Ram Lekh and Babu Lal Yadav won bronze in the men’s doubles event. The trio of Ramita, Mehuli Ghosh and Ashi Chouksey took silver in the women’s 10m air rifle team event with Ramita then winning bronze in the individual event.
Additionally, the Indian men’s hockey team defeated Uzbekistan 16-0 while the Indian women’s cricket team set-up a final against Sri Lanka.
In boxing, Preeti and Nikhat Zareen registered dominating wins. However, there was little to cheer in table tennis. The Indian men’s team exited the tournament in the quarter-final as did the women’s team in the Round of 16.

Football, Group A, India 1-1 Myanmar: FT The Indian men will live to see another day in the Asian Games as a 1-1 draw against Myanmar ensures that they will finish second in Group A and qualify for the Round of 16 for the first time in thirteen years.

Football, Group A, India 1-0 Myanmar: 60’ Both Myanmar centrebacks force India’s goalkeeper Dheeraj to make a couple of good saves as Aniket Jadhav comes on for Bryce Miranda.
Table Tennis, men’s team quarter-final, India 0-2 South Korea: Park Ganghyeon overcomes a 0-2 deficit to beat G Sathiyan 3-2. He won by a score of 10-12, 5-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-6 to put South Korea 2-0 up in the tie. Achanta Sharath Kamal is up next. He has to win against Oh Junsung to keep India alive in the contest.
Football, Group A, India 1-0 Myanmar: 54’ Rahim Ali and Gurkirat Singh both have shots on target before Chhetri heads a corner over the top bar. India have been getting chances but not been able to convert in the final third.

Football, Group A, India 1-0 Myanmar: 23’ INDIA SCORE!!! Rahim Ali snaps up the ball after a mistake from a Myanmar defender and that same defender tackles him from behind to concede a penalty. Sunil Chhetri makes no mistake and India lead 1-0.
Football, Group A, India vs Myanmar: 16’ Another free-kick for Myanmar and so far, the Indian defense has been troubled by the pace of the Myanmar attack.
Football, Group A, India vs Myanmar: 7’ A good start to the final group game with India dominating possession, but Myanmar are incredibly quick on the counter-attack and Rahul KP gets a yellow card for a shoddy challenge.
Table Tennis, men’s team quarter-final, India vs South Korea: There’s a change in the line-up for South Korea. Harmeet Desai will now start proceedings against world No 38 An Jaehyun. In the second match, G Sathiyan plays world No 176 Park Ganghyeon and Achanta Sharath Kamal will play the third match against world No 97 Oh Junsung.

Here’s how India line-up against Myanmar
Boxing: Nikhat Zareen defeats Nguyen Thi Tam by a 5:0 unanimous decision! Looked like a better outing for the Vietnamese but Nikhat looked like she’s on a different level. After taking the lead in the first two rounds, it just became too easy. Expectedly, takes five 10s on the cards. What was supposed to be a tough opening bout is handled with ease by the World Champ.
Boxing: In the second round too, Thi Tham is given a standing eight count. The third time in the bout so far! Nikhat just landing the combinations with accuracy. All five judges in favour of the Indian.
Boxing: In action now is two-time world champion Nikhat Zareen against Vietnam’s Nguyen Thi Tam – a rematch of the World Championships in March. A lot of clinching but Thi Tham received two standing eight counts, a warning for holding and Nikhat just bounces on that momentum. The Indian takes R1 on all five cards.
Rugby Sevens: The Indian women team lost to Japan 0-45.
Chess: (First round matches) In the men’s event, GM Vidit Gujrarathi beat IM Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Bangladesh, while Arjun Erigaisi beat Philippines’ IM Paulo Bersaminha. In the women’s event, GMs Koneru Humpy and Harika Dronavalli beat Iran’s Mobina Alinasabalamdari and UAE’s Rouda Alali respectively.
Table Tennis, men’s team quarter-final, India vs South Korea: Harmeet Desai, the current India No 1, plays the opening tie against world No 17 Lim Jonghoon. For the second match, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran takes on the Korea No 1, world No 13 Jang Woojin. In the third match, Achanta Sharath Kamal plays world No 97 Oh Junsung. The Indians had lost to South Korea in the semi-final in Jakarta 2018 to take home the bronze. Can they get past the Koreans this time?
Football: Next up, the Indian men will hope to qualify for the knock-outs when they take on Myanmar at 5PM IST
Football, Group B, India 0-1 Thailand: Full-time In the end, it proved to be too much to do for India as Parichat’s goal sends the women to the bottom of the group after two losses from two games. Many bright spots from this short campaign, like Anju Tamang’s spirit, Manisha Kalyan’s brilliance, the return of Bala Devi and Shreya Hooda’s goalkeeping. Led by Ashalata Devi, the way the Blue Tigresses played two higher-ranked teams will give them a huge confidence boost ahead of important matches like the upcoming Olympic qualifiers in October.
Football, Group B, India 0-1 Thailand: 90+4’ Four minutes of added time
Football, Group B, India 0-1 Thailand: 85’ Tired legs galore as India now unable to maintain that same intensity as they had right after the opening goal. Thailand now getting more bodies ahead and getting more opportunities.
Football, Group B, India 0-1 Thailand: 78’ Once again it’s Manisha Kalyan who makes the run and it’s 1-on-3 as the winger sends in a good ball for Pyari Xaxa but the latter is offside.
Fencing: Taniksha Khatri’s run ends in the quarter-final of the women’s epee individual event. She lost 7-15 to Man Wai Vivian Kong of Hong Kong, China.
Football, Group B, India 0-1 Thailand: 71’ An interesting run of events – Manisha Kalyan goes on a bursting run and takes a shot. The Thai defender clears it awkwardly and nearly sends it into her own goal but her goalkeeper Tiffany Sornpao does just enough to keep the lead.
Football, Group B, India 0-1 Thailand: 67’ Anju Tamang gets a good ball in from Manisha Kalyan and scores, but it’s offside. Meanwhile, Sandhiya Ranganathan comes on for Dangmei Grace.
Football, Group B, India 0-1 Thailand: 62’ Pyari Xaxa comes on for Bala Devi as India look to inject some speed in the forward-line.
Football, Group B, India 0-1 Thailand: 55’ A corner for India as they search for the equaliser and Manisha Kalyan is everywhere at the moment. Takes the corner and then attempts a powerful grounded shot from the rebound which is saved by Tiffany Sornpao.
Football, Group B, India 0-1 Thailand: 50’ Thailand score! A quick counter that outfoxes the Indian defence and a nifty cross from Sowalak who draws Shreya Hooda away and Parichat slots it home for the lead.
Tennis, Men’s Doubles: Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni paired up to beat Nepal’s Abhishek Bastola and Pradip Khadka 6-2, 6-3 in the first round match. They next take on the winners of the match between Uzbekistan and Indonesia.
Cricket: India will take on Sri Lanka in the women’s gold medal match on Monday. In the second semi-final, Pakistan were restricted to 75/9. In response, Sri Lanka reached the target in 16.3 overs, scoring 77/6, and won by four wickets. Pakistan will now face Bangladesh, who had lost to India in the first semi-final of the day, on Monday as well.
Football, Group B, India vs Thailand: Half-time A brilliant ball in to Manisha Kalyan who takes her time and shoots it powerfully into the hands of Thai goalie Tiffany. India will come away from the first half with some confidence after having held back Thailand, despite the latter having more chances. Anju Tamang has looked splendid like in the first game against Chinese Taipei, but the Indian defence will need to be tighter in the second half.
Football, Group B, India vs Thailand: 45+3’ Three minutes of added time
Fencing: Taniksha Khatri beat Uzbekistan’s Shakhzoda Egamberidieva 15-10 in the Round of 16 of the women’s Epee Individual event. She will take on Hong Kong’s Man Wai Vivian Kong in the quarter-final at 2:45 pm today.
Football, Group B, India vs Thailand: 37’ India are getting the chances and the runs into the box but are unable to convert. Free-kick for Thailand and Saowalak gets to the ball sent into the area but collides with Shreya Hooda and needs medical attention.
Football, Group B, India vs Thailand: 30’ Anju Tamang is such a delight to watch – she gets the ball and goes on this bursting run and almost always, ends up crossing it into the box for a chance on goal. This time, both Grace and Bala Devi were there but the cross was too quick for either of them.
Football, Group B, India vs Thailand: 23’ Shreya Hooda and the Indian defence have been constantly troubled by the enterprising Thai forward Saowalak who has been making brilliant runs behind Sweety and Ashalata Devi.
Football, Group B, India vs Thailand: 17’ A flurry of chances that started off with Bala Devi getting tonnes of space and shoots on target only to get deflected by a Thai defender for a corner. India get the ball in the melee and confusion galore but Dangmei Grace controls the rebound and shoots straight towards Thai goalkeeper Tiffany Sorunpao and goes out for another corner. Manisha takes it but nothing comes of it and India will feel buoyed by that display.
Football, Group B, India vs Thailand: 11’ No shot on target or corner as of yet for India who are up against a strong Thai defence.
Football, Group B, India vs Thailand: 7’ Thailand are dominating possession but the likes of Ashalata Devi and Anju Tamang are doing well to cut off any potential attacks.
Fencing: The Indian challenge in the men’s individual foil event comes to an end in the round of 16. After the pool matches, Dev was 22nd with Bibish Kathiresan 23rd. In the round of 32 bouts, Dev lost to Chinese Taipei’s Chen Yi-Tung 15-8. Kathiresan defeated Singapore’s Au Eong Tian Wei Jonathan 15-12 to reach the round of 16. Kathiresan, however, lost to the 2018 men’s team foil champion Lee Kwanghyun 15-5.
In the women’s Épée individual event, Tanishka Khatri beat compatriot Ena Arora 15-11 in their round of 32 bout. Khatri will next face Shakhzoda Egamberdieva in the round of 16 later today

Here’s how the Indian team lines up against Thailand
Volleyball: India’s winning spree is broken as they go down 16-25, 18-25, 17-25 against world No 5 Japan in the 1-6th place classification match.
Volleyball: India surrender the second set 18-25 and now trail 0-2 against Japan.
Table Tennis: The Indian men’s team will take on South Korea in the quarter-final at 4PM IST. India had lost to the Koreans in the semi-final at Jakarta 2018.
Sailing: After 11 races in the men’s windsurfer RS:X event, Eabad Ali is fourth out of six sailors with two more races to go before the medal race. In the women’s windsurfer RS:X event, Ishwariya Ganesh is fourth out of four racers at the end of 11 races.
In the Mixed Dinghy - 470 event, the pair of Preethi Kongara and Sudhanshu Shekhar are fifth out of seven teams after eight races. There are three more races to go before the medal race. Siddeshwar Doiphode and Ramya Saravanan are fourth out five teams in the Mixed Multihull - Nacra 17 event after 10 races. There are four more races to go including the medal race.
Chitresh Tatha finds himself bottom of the seven-sailor field in the Men’s Kite - IKA Formula Kite event after 14 races. Two more races await Tatha before the medal race
Table Tennis, India 3-2 Kazakhstan (men’s team Round of 16): India qualify for the quarter-finals with a 3-2 win in R16.
Achanta Sharath Kamal bounces back from two-game down to win 5-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9 in a must win encounter to help India through to final eight stage.
They will now play the quarter-finals match later today at 4PM IST.
Volleyball: India put up a good fight but eventually surrender the first set 16-25 to Japan. At world No 5, Japan are the highest ranked side in Asia.
Asian Games Medal tally: India are currently third in the medal tally behind China and Hong Kong, China with five medals. The hosts have won 11 out of 12 medals on offer for the morning, with Hong Kong, China denying them a clean sweep.
Volleyball: The Indian men’s team is in action in the 1st-6th classification round where they take on eight-time champions Japan. The winner of the match will face hosts China in the semi-final.
Boxing: And Preeti wins in the third round by RSC! Alhasanat received a standing eight count with 23 seconds to go in the bout. The boxer from Jordan was unhappy with the decision but Preeti’s accuracy and dominance was evident.
Boxing: Alhasanat initiated attack on multiple occasions but Preeti’s defence is solid. Alhasanat also gets a standing count in this round. Preeti takes the second round on all five cards again.
Boxing: Preeti takes on Jordan’s Silina Alhasanat in the women’s 54 kg Round of 16. In a solid opening round, the 19-year-old Indian landed some excellent combinations. Alhasanat was pretty fiery too but Preeti takes the first round on all five cards.
Table Tennis, India 2-2 Kazakhstan (men’s team Round of 16): Kazakhstan draw level in the tie as Sathiyan Gnanasekaran goes down 5-11, 11-9, 9-11, 11-5, 5-11.
The onus is now on Achanta Sharath Kamal to take India through to the quarter-finals in a must win match against Aidos Kenzhigulov.
Esports: Karman Singh goes down 1-2 to Bahrain’s Faqeehi Abdulaziz Abdullatif in EA Sports FC Online R32. Both Charanjot and Karman will compete in Loser’s Bracket Round 1 later today.
Table Tennis, India 2-1 Kazakhstan (men’s team Round of 16): India now lead in the tie against Kazakhstan for the first time. Harmeet Desai beat Alan Kurmangaliyev 11-7, 12-10, 11-5. G Sathiyan will play next against Kirill Gerassimenko. A win there and India will be through to the quarter-final.
Table Tennis, India 2-3 Thailand (Women’s team Round of 16): The Indian team lose out in the Round of 16. Manika Batra lost the deciding match to Thailand’s Suthasini Sawettabut 12-10, 8-11, 7-11, 6-11.

Table Tennis, India 1-1 Thailand (Women’s team Round of 16): Ayhika Mukherjee pulls off an upset win over world No 39 Suthasini Sawettabut. The Indian, ranked 177, won 18-16, 11-7, 13-15, 11-9 to level the tie for India. Sutirtha Mukherjee now plays Tamolwan Khethuan in the third match.

Rowing: Satnam Singh and Parminder Singh miss out on a medal in the men’s doubles scull event. The Indians were in medal contention for most of the final but it looks like Satnam Singh injured himself towards the end of the race. He was barely able to row towards the end of the final leg with Parminder bringing the pair home.

Rowing: India has its first medal at the Hangzhou Asian Games!
Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh clinch silver in the men’s light-weight doubles scull event. The pair clocked a time of 6:28.18 to finish second behind hosts China.
Shooting: India are close to picking up their first medal of the Asian Games 2022. Ramita finishes the women’s 10m air rifle qualification event with a sixth series score of 106.0, and a total of 631.9, to finish in second position. Mehuli Ghosh is in 5th position with a total of 630.8. They are both through to the final. Ashi Chouksey is in 29th with a total of 623.3. However, the performance from the trio may just be enough to win India it’s first medal in Hangzhou, in the women’s 10m air rifle team event.
Cricket: WICKETS! Not how Bangladesh would have wanted to perform in a semi-final. They now lose two wickets in an over, both courtesy run-outs. Captain Nigar Sultana plays a forward defensive shot and is then run-out. Fahima Khatun also doesn’t put in the effort to get inside the crease. Sigh. Bangladesh 25/6 (8)

After the first series in the qualification round, reigning World Championships bronze medallist Mehuli Ghosh scored 104.6. Ramita scored 104.3 while Ashi Chouksey picked up 103.2 points. Six series will be played among the 62 competitors. At the end, the top 8 will proceed to the final.

Hello and welcome to Scroll’s live coverage of the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou!
Fans were treated to a rather lovely opening ceremony which highlighted China’s cultural heritage while also focusing on Hangzhou’s role in the country’s growth. Indian men’s hockey captain Harmanpreet and World Champion boxer Lovlina Borgohain were the country’s flag bearers at the opening ceremony.

Today, the Games will begin in earnest with plenty of sporting action for Indian fans to keep up with. India’s medal rush might just begin today with Indian athletes competing in the finals of rowing events with more likely in the shooting events.
We start the day at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre PMC Range for some shooting action before going to the Pingfeng Campus Cricket Field where the Indian women’s team takes on Bangladesh in the semi-finals of the cricket event.
The men’s hockey team also begin their campaign against Uzbekistan in the group stage. The men’s football team face a must-win match against Myanmar as do the women’s team against Thailand.
World champion Nikhat Zareen begins her boxing campaign as does the rising star Preeti Pawar.
