Both Gagan Narang, one of India's medal hopefuls, and Chain Singh crashed out of the 50m Rifle Prone on Friday. Both shooters made excellent starts in their series. Narang held a spot in the Top Eight after his third series, but bad shooting in the fourth and sixth series saw him finish at 13th. Chain Singh ended at a lowly 36th.
Narang made a fine start in the first series, shooting 104.7. He had made a decent start in the 10m event too, but failed to back it up later in the game. This time, his consistency stayed through the next two series, in which he scored 104.4 and 104.6, respectively, climbing to fifth place. But he went downhill thereafter, being overtaken by several others.
Chain Singh, who had an impressive run coming into the Olympics, flattered to deceive when it mattered. His start was almost as bright as Narang's, with 104.1, but a mere 101 from the second series marked the beginning of his slide. Singh tried to claw back with 104.4 in his third, but his last three series let him down. He finished at 619.6 points. Narang scored 623.1.
