Indian athletes Khushbir Kaur and Sapana Punia failed to bag a medal in the final of women’s 20km walk on Friday. Punia wasn’t even able to finish the race and bowed out near the 10km mark. However, Kaur reached the finish line with a time of 1:40:35 to rank 54th.

China’s Liu Hong bagged gold with a time of 1:28:35, followed by Mexico’s Gonzales Maria Guadalupe with 1:28:37 for silver. The bronze was bagged by another Chinese, Lu Xiuzhi, with a time of 1:28:42.

Kaur, who had grabbed the silver medal in racewalking at the Incheon Asian Games two years ago with a timing of 1:33:07, was India’s lone medal hope in the race. Both the Indians never looked at ease and were never in contention of bagging a medal.
