Defending champion Lewis Hamilton beat teammate Nico Rosberg to finish first in the second practice session at the Malaysian Grand Prix on Friday. Hamilton was 0.223 seconds quicker than Rosberg, with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel coming in third ahead of his teammate Kimi Raikkonen.
Rosberg was on top in the first practice, but he lost some pace in the second. Red Bull's Max Verstappen was fifth fastest ahead of Force India's Sergio Perez and McLaren's Fernando Alonso.
However, the session was marred with an incident when Kevin Magnussen's Renault suffered a bizarre fire in first practice. A faulty valve is suspected to be the cause of the fire that engulfed the car. Magnussen made a regulation stop in the pit lane when flames emerged at the top of the fuel tank as the car was being pulled into the garage. Magnussen was unhurt as he left the car immediately.
