West Indies's problems wear a sense of deja vu on the tour, where they continue to search for a win after being whitewashed 0-3 in the Twenty20 series. The result was the same in an ODI too, as rookie batsman Babar Azam (120 from 131) and the spinners landed the decisive blows on Jason Holder's men, setting up a comprehensive 111-run win for Pakistan. Azam's maiden ton held his team's innings together to take Pakistan to 284/9. Under the Sharjah lights, the Windies wilted, managing only 175.
West Indies did get off to a dream start with pacer Shannon Gabriel picking up the wicket of Pakistan skipper Azhar Ali off the first ball. Sharjeel Khan and Azam then built the Pakistani innings with a 82-run second wicket stand. Though there weren't any big contributions down the order, Azam laid the platform for a formidable score.
West Indies were always on the back foot as Pakistan pacers got regular breakthroughs at the top. Marlon Samuels (42) was the only batsman who looked like building an innings. Nawaz ran through the West Indian middle order, and an entertaining hand from Sunil Narine did nothing to change the outcome.
