Paul Scholes was a Red Devils legend. Period.

A product of the Manchester United academy, Scholes was a product of the “Class of 1992”. He made his senior team debut during the 1994-’95 season for United as a supporting striker and scored some stunning goals.

However, when manager Sir Alex Ferguson gave him control of the midfield, he blossomed as a player and went on to become one of the best midfielders in world of football. He had complete control of the game and always knew when to go on the offensive; his reading of space unparalleled in the English game.

Whether it be long-range screamers or a 60-yard pass beautifully pinged as if the location of the ball had been transmitted telepathically, Scholes could control the flow of the game like no other English midfielder of his generation. The ginger-haired man could not tackle, but that was possibly the only downside to a wonderful career at the very top of the game.

He even came back to the beautiful game in 2013 after his first retirement in 2011. He eventually ended his footballing career at United, where it all began for the “Ginger Prince”. On his 42nd birthday on Wednesday, we look back at his incredible career. Considering the current state of affairs at Old Trafford right now, Scholes would be the man they need at the moment.
