Indian head coach Stephen Constantine has reportedly been handed a contract extension by the All India Football Federation on Tuesday after a meeting at the AIFF house in Delhi.

Kushal Das, the AIFF general secretary Kushal Das stated that he had met the English coach and offered him a performance-based one year contract, “We have shared the terms with the coach and now he has to get back to us. It’s a one year contract which will be performance-based. There will be a review meeting held after six months though,” Das was quoted as saying in a Times of India report.

Das also talked about India’s targets in the near future, with qualification for the 2019 Asian Cup in Dubai. He also said that 54-year-old former Rwanda coach was in discussion with AIFF over a “couple of issues” “The target set is to qualify for the Asian Cup. Stephen [Constantine] understands that but there are a couple of issues on which he will get back to us,” Das was quoted as saying in a report compiled by Goal.

Das also went on say that former skipper Shanmugham Venkatesh could join the bench as Constantine’s assistant with the board keen on having an Indian coach as the No. 2, “Lee Johnson’s [India Under-19 and India assistant coach] contract ends in February and he won’t be staying with us. Stephen will look at a few Indian coaches but he could opt for Venkatesh, who serves as the team manager, to double up as an assistant coach,” Das stated.
