Virat Kohli is the best batsman in world cricket right now. There is no doubt about it. His innings of 235 at the Wankhede Stadium was exceptional. But, was it his best knock till date? According to many, yes it was. But, there is a worthy challenger: On this day in 2014, Kohli hit an awe-inspiring 141 against Australia in Adelaide.

India were set a target of 364 to win in the fourth innings. It was Kohli’s first Test as the captain of the Indian team and instead of attempting to play for a draw, he wanted his team to bat aggressively and go for a win. Kohli would lead from the front as he scored 141 to make it two centuries in the match for himself. However, India suffered a batting collapse, losing their last eight wickets for 73 runs and were bowled out for 315. India shunned the option of a draw and lost by 48 runs. Critics hailed his innings as one of his best till date.

Kohli has scored 200 against the West Indies and 211 against New Zealand in this year alone. He became the fifth man to post three double centuries in a year, joining Australian legends Donald Bradman (1930), Ricky Ponting (2003), Michael Clarke (2012) and New Zealand great Brendon McCullum (2014).
