Shuttler PV Sindhu has become India’s second-highest paid sportsperson in brand endorsements, reported the Economic Times. Sindhu is making more money per day by endorsing brands than former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni and is second only to the current skipper, Virat Kohli.
Sindhu’s silver medal at the Rio Olympics last year and subsequent rise to the top 5 in the world badminton rankings has raised her endorsement value, taking her past Dhoni, shuttler Saina Nehwal and tennis ace Sania Mirza.
“Sindhu is clearly the No 1 woman athlete in the country and among the top two-three sportsperson for India,” Tuhin Mishra, managing director and co-founder of Baseline Ventures, the sports management firm representing Sindhu, told the business newspaper.
Sindhu’s current endorsement fee is about Rs 1 crore to Rs 1.25 crore per day, Mishra added. Kohli pockets around Rs 2 crore a day, higher than what Dhoni charged at his peak, the report said. Sindhu has already signed deals worth Rs 30 crore in the past five months, it added.
