The latest FIFA women’s rankings were released on March 24 and the Indian women’s team has dropped two places to 56th in the overall rankings, between Northern Ireland and Slovenia.
Despite winning three matches and drawing one out of their four matches during the three-month assessment period, the total number of points for the team dropped from 1412 to 1404 due to old wins being chalked out.
The other finalists of the recently concluded SAFF Women’s Championship, Bangladesh climbed 11 places to 103rd. India are also ranked 11th in the Asian Football Confederation, with Japan the highest ranked Asian team in sixth, followed by Australia in eighth and North Korea in tenth.
The US women’s team finished last in the recently held SheBelieves Cup and it reflected in the rankings, as the Stars and Stripes were dethroned for the first time in two years at the top of the rankings. Germany are the new World no. 1, with only three points separating them from the USA.
