Delhi Daredevils have signed all-rounder Marlon Samuels to replace injured wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock for the rest of the Indian Premier League season. Samuels will me making a return to the IPL after four years.

De Kock had been ruled out of the 10th edition of the IPL with a right index finger injury sustained during South Africa’s tour of New Zealand last month. Samuels was among the unsold players in the IPL auction this year, with a base price of Rs 100 lakh.

“Delhi Daredevils have signed West Indies all-rounder, Marlon Samuels as a replacement for the injured Quinton de Kock for the remainder of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2017,” the team said in a statement.

Samuels has previously played for one IPL team, the now defunct Pune Warriors. He last played in the IPL back in 2013. In the 2012 edition, he played eight matches for the team, scoring a total of 124 runs and took eight wickets. In 2013, he played just two matches, with scores of five and three, and took only one wicket.

A veteran of 71 Tests, 187 One-Day Internationals and 55 T20Is, the West Indian will be a handy edition to the Delhi unit, which has struggled so far this season. Currently at seventh in the table after six matches, the Daredevils have lacked big-hitting players and will hope Samuels fills that void.

Delhi Daredevils take on table toppers Kolkata Knight Riders next, on Friday at the Eden Gardens.
