India batsman Cheteshwar Pujara has signed up for County Championship outfit Nottinghamshire for the remainder of the season, Trentbridge.co.uk reported.

Pujara has not featured in the ongoing Indian Premier League season, after being ignore by all eight franchises in the Indian Premier League players’ auction.

The 29-year-old is expected to leave for England around mid-May, and is likely to feature in County Championship fixtures against Gloucestershire, Glamorgan and Derbyshire.

“I’m ready for it. I’m already working on my skills and preparing for competitive cricket,” added Pujara. “I love playing county cricket and Trent Bridge is a great venue. I’m really looking forward to my first experience there as a home player.

“The aim is to win as many games as possible so the team stays on top of the points table.”

The 29-year-old replaces Australian James Pattinson in the Nottinghamshire squad. after the pacer earned an international call-up.

Pujara has been the cornerstone of India’s batting this season having scored 1316 runs, highest ever aggregate of runs by an Indian batsman in a single Test season.

He averages 51 in Test cricket with 3,798 runs in 48 matches and 11 centuries. He averages 58 in first-class cricket with 30 tons to his name.

He has previously played for Derbyshire and Yorkshire in the County Championship.
