Despite their tame display against Rising Pune Supergiant in the Eliminator, Mumbai Indians came out guns blazing to book their place in the Indian Premier League final on the back of registering a thumping six-wicket win against Kolkata Knight Riders.
The Kolkata top-order was blown away by an inspired display with the ball by paces-spin duo of Jasprit Bumrah and Karn Sharma, who shared seven wickets between them. Rohit Sharma’s side reached home on a canter while chasing a paltry total of 107.
For Mumbai, they continued to stretch their dominance against Kolkata. The win also helped them maintain their excellent record at Bangalore’s Chinnaswamy Stadium. Here are the pick of the stats from the contest:
- In 10 games, this was Mumbai’s eight win at the Chinnaswamy Stadium with a win percentage of 80. They have marginally better numbers at Eden Gardens, though, with a win percentage of 81.81.
- Karn Sharma’s figures of 4/16 is the joint-best for a spinner in a knockout match. Anil Kumble also had identical figures for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2009.
- After registering their highest ever powerplay score of 105/0 against RCB, Kolkata Knight Riders also slumped to their lowest ever during this contest, picking up just 25 runs from it.
- Mumbai Indians will feature in their fourth final. Only Chennai Super Kings (6 times) have done it more frequently.
- The win was also Mumbai’s 16th against Kolkata, most by any team in head-to-head meetings.
- Kolkata’s 107 is the lowest total in all knockout matches in IPL history.
