India finished a rich haul of five medals in the Junior Asian Wrestling Championships on Friday, headlined by Pooja Gehlot winning gold in the final of the women’s 51 kg event after beating Japan’s Chisaki Hori 6-5.

India earned two medals in the Greco-Roman category, with Satish walking away with silver in the 120 kg event. Manish earned the bronze medal after defeating Japan’s Hideto Yamaguchi 7-5 in a thriller in the 50 kg event. Sonu also earned a silver medal after going down to China’s Yumei Chen 4-14.

The day ended with Manju Kumari winning the women’s 59 kg bronze medal match with a comprehensive margin of 10-0 against Kyzy Aibike Artykali. Manju was defeated in the quarter-final by Jiang Jing, who went on to win the gold medal in the event. The Indian reached the semi-final via repechage, defeating Nazira Amanzholova of Kazakhstan 10-8.

In his category, Satish had beaten Kazakhstan’s Anton Savenko 3-1 in the quarter-final and China’s Jije Mu by the same margin in the semi-final before losing 3-6 to Iran’s Amirmohammad Hossein in the summit event.

Manish had registered two comprehensive wins during his run-in – crushing Thailand’s Nattawut Kaewkhuanchum 13-4 and beating Saudi Arabia’s Tuorki Ali Hazoazi 8-0. In Manish’s semi-final encounter, the scores were level 5-5 against Kazakhstan’s Alpamys Dastanbek but the match was awarded to the latter.

On day one, Sajan and Sunil kumar opened the account for India with their bronze medal wins in the Greco-Roman 74 kg and and 84 kg categories respectively.
