Mithali Raj has been a force to reckon with in the One-Day International circuit since she made her debut, at the cusp of the end of the 20th century, in 1999. In these near-18 years, she has also been Indian cricket’s pride and joy.
The latest of her milestones came in India’s match against Australia on Wednesday at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2017, when she became the first woman to cross the threshold of 6,000 runs.
As fans watched her bat her heart out against the Australians, who went on to win the toss and put India to bat first, here’s a quick summary of Twitter’s tribute to this Captain Raj’s exploits:
A six to bring up six thousand. #MithaliRaj #GOAT #enoughsaid

The best token of appreciation, and the acknowledgement that the baton had truly been passed along came from none other than Charlotte Edwards herself. The woman, whose previously set record of 5,992 runs was broken by Raj.
